After a hiatus, Dave and Harry are diving into the shower tiling. We had to figure out how to close the gap between the Hardiboard and TileRedi shower pan. I finally bought patching mud and fiberglass mesh tape and covered the gap. Not approved in any manufacturer's directions, I'm sure. Turns out TileRedi now ships its shower pans with metal flashing for the backer board to slip into, which covers the gap.
Dave painted the shower walls with RedGard, a roll-on (with 3/4" nap rollers!) waterproofing membrane. Two coats, two gallons, and $80 later, we were ready to affix the tile.
The marble threshold, front tile and first row had to be attached using epoxy, which is tricky and dries fast. The tiles over the RedGard are attached with thinset mortar.
