We needed to do a little tricky engineering today to put in the header for the French door in the new studio (in the garage). There wasn't enough room for the code-required 2-2x8s. So a quick call to our engineer, who assured us that 3 2x6s can do the work of 2 2x8s. We're actually overbuilding a bit with a ripped down 2x10 on one end.

So 2x2x8=3x2x6. 36 sq. in. I'd accept it. Can hardly wait to see your new 5-foot door. This is going to be so beautiful. You're not just remodeling, you're rebuilding and redesigning this house the way it ought to have been in the first place. What a beautiful place for Patrick to grow up in and for you to grow old in... What a legacy to leave.
