When the structure is exposed under the sunroom, we find some rot and carpenter ant activity. We also find some very interesting structure. There is essentially a steel beam rim joist, with a steel beam down the center. Then it looks like Mr. Hommel used whatever wood was left in the recycled pile and criss crossed it. He was very creative. :-) But who's to complain when it lasted 60 years. Many thanks go to the crew who tackled the "vile pit" of chewed up insulation, mouse nests and carpenter ant nests -- a disgusting glop of odious and odiferous materials.

You have a mudroom! And a place to play in the snow, or the shade on a hot day. Congratulations
