At the end of the day we have a French door and double hung window in the room that will become the new entry. We discuss whether the window will be larger or stick with the same size as in the kitchen. We go with the smaller size, knowing that the door will provide plenty of light. I goofed in not reminding the contractors that the doors were all ordered for 6" walls, not the 4" walls that exist, but they are creative and come up with a detail that makes use of the fact that we are adding nearly 2" of depth with the insulation and siding.
We also discussed profiles and costs of cement trim board vs. cedar trim board. I would like to have a beefier profile (1" vs. 3/4") at the trim. Larry has asked the lumber supply store to give prices for both. The James Hardie cement trim board that we are using comes in sizes for five-quarter-board in 4", 5", 6", 8" and 12". Of course I wanted some 10" for the water course. We'll see.
